Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s New Zealand batter Devon Conway will play no part in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as he was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury. Conway had missed the first six games of CSK so far amid uncertainity over his participation in the tournament due to the injury. However, the opening batter has now been ruled out of the entire season. CSK have named veteran England pacer Richard Gleeson as his replacement.
“Devon Conway has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an injury,” IPL said in a statement on Thursday.
Conway has been part of CSK for the past two seasons, and helped them win the title last year. He played 23 matches and scored 924 runs, which included 9 half-centuries and a highest score of 92 not out.
The 36-year-old Gleeson, on the other hand, is yet to get a taste of IPL cricket. In 2022, he made his England debut at the 35 in a T20I against India and dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant to end the match with figures of 3/15.
He has played 6 T20Is in total for England.
“CSK have added Richard Gleeson to the squad for the remainder of the IPL 2024. Gleeson has represented England in 6 T20Is and has 9 wickets against his name. Additionally, Gleeson has played 90 T20s and picked 101 T20 wickets. He will join CSK for his reserve price of Rs 50 Lac,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, CSK are currently third in the points table with four wins from a possible six.
